Ivy R. Buchan
Ivy R. Buchan fell in love with volunteerism and board governance in high school as the president of a community service group, and then while working at a domestic violence shelter in college she decided to focus her career in the nonprofit sector. Ivy is the President of Helix Strategies, LLC and for the last 18 years she has worked with nonprofits and community based organizations. Helix helps organizations to raise funds and develop their leaders and programs for sustainable success. Ivy and her team specialize in fundraising/development strategies, board development, succession planning, capacity building, and program evaluation.
Ivy has Ph.D. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Administration and Leadership Studies in the Nonprofit and Public Sectors. Her dissertation research focused on multidisciplinary team collaboration. Ivy earned her Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University and a Bachelor’s Degree from York College of Pennsylvania, and she has also edited three nonprofit textbooks. Ivy co-founded the West Shore Young Professionals in 2014 and currently sits on their Advisory Board. She also serves on the York College Alumni Board, Financial Institution Young Professional Advisory Board, Cumberland County Library System Future Task Force, Central PA Food Bank Top Taste Host Committee, and is the Vice President of the United Way Bridges Society Steering Committee. Ivy was a 2018 finalist for the Conference for Women Lifetime Achievement Award, 2018 winner of the Central Penn Business Journal’s (CPBJ) Women of Influence Community Achievement Award, 2018 winner of Leadership Harrisburg Area’s The Extra Mile Award, 2017 winner of the CPBJ’s Forty Under 40, 2017 winner of City State PA’s 40 Under 40 Rising Stars, and a graduate of the Leadership Harrisburg Area Class of 2018.
Katie Crane is Development Manager for Helix Strategies, LLC. Her duties include development, fundraising, event planning, grant research and writing, and more.
“I love to apply my skills in order to help a variety of organizations,” Crane said. “Helix Strategies allows me to learn about and connect with a range of nonprofits that all need the support and services we offer. There’s nothing more fulfilling.”
Wanting to be a writer her whole life, Katie honed her skills early with aspiration to become an investigative journalist. At Mansfield University, she quickly became Editor-in-Chief of the university’s newspaper and has written for several local papers. She has also secured thousands of dollars in grant money for various nonprofit organizations.
In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering, traveling, working out, trying new restaurants with family and friends, and writing of course. Katie believes that everyone has a story tell. Helix Strategies allows her to tell the stories of her clients in new ways everyday.
